"PRICE OF AN EDUCATION":
A THEATRE-BASED ORIENTATION PROGRAM

"PRICE OF AN EDUCATION," is a series of comedic and dramatic scenes woven together with factual information, examining the critical issues which are unique to incoming freshman. Leaving home to gain an education is an exciting time filled with positive experiences. However, this rite of passage can present tough and unexpected challenges to the freshman student. This program outlines many of these challenges and provides skill-building tools to help the student overcome them. "PRICE OF AN EDUCATION," is an entertaining, yet informative freshman orientation program that will continue to have an impact on the students throughout their time spent at your institution.

CHOICES [Safe-sex, HIV]

Sex, pregnancy, HIV, this scene explores the potential problems associated with sexual experimentation.

RAVE [Seduction of drugs]

Designer drugs and dancing all night; everything is cool until the price of the evening reaches far beyond the cover charge.

MY COCOON [Theft on Campus]

This scene reminds students that the college does not exist in a vacuum when it comes to crime.

DEADLY PURCHASE [Depression, stress and suicide]

A young woman, unable to break free from the stress of school, family and personal relationships, contemplates suicide.

TAKING THE BLACK OUT OF BLACK-MARKET [Political Correctness Run Riot]

This humorous scene explores the delicate balance between being sensitive to cultural differences and self-censorship.

LET ME [Date-Rape]

This tale of a date gone terribly wrong explores personal responsibility, poor decision-making skills, and the emotional fall-out that occurs when a young woman’s nightmare comes true.

TEACH [Homophobia/Heterosexism]

A young lesbian speaks about her fears and self-discovery.

SOLUTIONS [Exploring avenues of help]

Problems are inevitable. While some are manageable, we may need help for others. This block of information explores the avenues of help available on Campus.

THE PRICE [Uplifting Close]

We know that great goals exact a price. But when armed with information, awareness, and a healthy commitment to our well-being, the emotional price of an education need not be too high.
