"THE NEXT ONE UP":
MULTIPLE ISSUE PRESENTATION FOR STUDENTS
"The Next One Up", our INTERVENTION THEATRE program for young people, is a comprehensive look at the obstacles, issues, and options confronting students. Issues of drug and alcohol use, eating disorders, sexual activity depression and others are difficult challenges facing the youth of today, but SST's combination of factual information with comedic and dramatic vignettes can educate and motivate audiences toward solutions and change.
Vignette Topics Include:
I'M ON THE PERFECT DIET
A female student reads from her diary, disclosing her struggle with anorexia nervosa. She relates how her scales plummet from 128 to 68 pounds while her image in the mirror continues to grow.
D.U.I.
This humorous look at four friends running late for the homecoming dance, becomes very serious when we discover the driver has "had a couple beers".
END OF THE LINE
Two young fast food employees turn to cocaine to give them the "extra edge" on the burger assembly line. Suddenly, the company announces a mandatory drug testing policy and the chase is on!
DEADLY PURCHASE
A young woman, unable to break free from the stress of school, family and personal relationships, contemplates suicide.
GARDEN WEASEL
A victim of bi-polar disorder takes you through the highs and lows of this illness, which is often mistaken for a drug or alcohol problem because of the behavior extremes.
*THE BASHER
Bias, hatred and violence born from anger backfires when a man participates in a violent act with his peers, only to discover later that his sister was one of the victims. This no-holds-barred look at racism emphasizes that we must move beyond intolerance to insure our mutual survival.
CHOICE
Thinking she has found "Mr. Right", a young woman decides to experiment sexually. Now pregnant, her boyfriend abandons her, leaving her to face tough decisions on her own.
SOLITAIRE
In this uplifting close to the show, we see a young woman who has felt trapped and isolated being bolstered by her peers. Indeed, she becomes... the NEXT ONE UP.
*Denotes possible scene substitution *INGREDIENTS Dietary restrictions and a need for detailed information regarding his product send this employee reeling from increased responsibility. Flexibility and willingness to change alleviate his stress and create a renewed enthusiasm for the job.
