"A COMPELLING RESONANCE":
MANAGING EMPLOYEES POST 9/11

SST Communications, Inc. brings their innovative marriage of training and drama to the issues of resilience, transition and healing following the events of September 11, 2001. This poignant collection of comedic and dramatic scenes woven together with effective strategies designed to identify the negative fallout affecting our workforce since 9/11, and how to manage it. The piece also brings to light a number of positive trends that have risen and how to capitalize upon them for the betterment of the organization and the individual.

Managers will take away a solid understanding of how people transition through cataclysmic change and how to minimize the negative while accentuating the positive of the process. They will also be given some specific tools on how to most effectively utilize the organization's Employee Assistance Program.

Scenes Included in the Program:

CONVERSION DIVERSION
In order to understand the current workforce, we must look at the environment prior to 9/11. This scene shows how mounting responsibilities and fewer resources combined with a mandate for excellence had many employees bent to the breaking point. Here, four characters toss a potentially "hot potato" project back and forth to avoid being the one left holding the spud.

HISTORY
One of our most popular monologues satirizes a swashbuckling CFO charged with slicing back the workforce. In hopes of softening the blow, he sings a parody of Sam Cooke's "History" to break the bad news.

HONEY, PASS THE CLICKER
We need only look at our personal lives to realize the difficulty of moving out of the comfort of our routine. This humorous scene reduces the stress associated with uncertainty by linking it to familiarity. When the baleful perception of change becomes benign, transition becomes manageable.

…THEN IT HAPPENED
The characters in this mixed-genre scene takes us through the actual transition 9/11 had on each individual, and how we became, galvanized, unified, open-eyed, and for many it was the very first time.

SURVIVOR
An employee shares with us the importance of having his own mission, vision and values to guide him through troubled times. He asserts that without a personal strategy to protect himself in the event that Atlas decides to shrug, he has nothing of value to contribute to the institution. An excellent piece that puts real empowerment on showcase.

STICK TO PERFORMANCE
A step by step methodology is provided to assist supervisors and managers in the art of supportive confrontation in order to refer a troubled employee to the EAP.

This musical scene leads us through the pressure and anxiety confronting our workforce today.

TOWERS
This final scene of hope takes us through one manager's odyssey of the events of 9/11, how it changed her perspective on work and life, and how she manages today.
