"INTERVENTION THEATRE II":
ALCOHOL AND OTHER DRUG (AOD) TRAINING
FOR SUPERVISORS

"Intervention Theatre II" is an educational tool for assistance in recognizing a troubled employee, improving documentation, and illustrating a non-threatening style of referral to the Employee Assistance Program. Supervisory training discourages managers from diagnosing an individual's problem, while motivating them to intervene early when a decline in job productivity is observed.

Scenes Included in the Program:

END OF THE LINE
One co-worker helps a buddy's productivity by offering the "cocaine advantage". Suddenly, the company adopts a mandatory drug testing policy and the chase is on.

I'M SO EMBARRASSED
It is important not to diagnose a troubled employee. This illustration clarifies why specialized training is needed to delineate a substance abuse problem from other causes of duress.

WHAT WE ALL WANT
An employee, once eager to serve, finds his heart no longer in it. His job burnout and declining performance dramatizes the importance of early intervention to discourage abuse.

ALTERNATIVES
A supervisor uses non-threatening "supportive confrontation" to encourage a troubled employee's participation in the company's EAP.

LATE NIGHT IN HELL
As seen through the eyes of a man in denial, this biased view of treatment center commercials shows how troubled individuals may react to those offering help.

DO'S AND DON'TS
The steps portrayed here for making a referral to the Employee Assistance program can assist in making the process more positive for all involved.

GO FIGURE
A supervisor discovers that his firing of an employee turned out to be the catalyst in breaking through the man's denial and initiating his recovery process.
