"THE FURY FROM WITHIN":
PREVENTING VIOLENCE IN THE WORKPLACE

"The Fury From Within" was developed in response to the increased frequency of violent acts occurring in the workplace, and the relative void of information resources available concerning this issue. This thoughtful and moving program examines critical situations in which violent behavior can erupt, acknowledges problems organizations face when screening applicants for potential violence, offers state of the art information to prevent and/or contain violence, and suggests responses should violence occur. This is an excellent presentation for managers and employees, illustrating that ALL of us are needed to minimize the risk of experiencing The Fury From Within.

Vignettes Included in the Program:

IT CAME FROM OUT OF THE BLUE
Rarely does violence erupt from out of the blue. This opening montage contains the litany of warning signs exhibited by a troubled employee, which co-workers observed, but failed to address.

INGREDIENTS
This analogy examines the consequences of mass downsizing of corporate America, revealing resentments held by some employees toward increased responsibility with fewer resources.

NOTHING PERSONAL
We examine the mind of one assailant during the course of his story, and hear how he has rationalized his most irrational thoughts before bringing them and a weapon to work.

THE INTIMATE JAILER
Studies have shown that a great percentage of violent acts on the job are actually domestic disputes which have spilled over into the workplace. This scene effectively illustrates how productivity suffers when life at home has soured.

SYMPTOMATIC SHUFFLE
Because prevention of violence in the workplace is a newly forming technology, effective policies and procedures to guide supervisors and managers have been slow to develop. This vignette illustrates the folly of curing the symptom instead of addressing the root cause.

THE KNIFE
A violent episode on the job creates Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome in one employee, emphasizing the need for follow-up resources for individuals as well as the entire workforce.
